Mayim Bialik wants you to go by her parenting motto: “Lowered Expectations.” The mom of 2, who shares sons — Miles, 14, and Frederick, 11 — with ex-husband Michael Stone sat down with Moms Like Us host Christina Garibaldi and Stroller in the City’s Brianne Manz to chat all about how being a mom doesn’t mean you have to have it all figured out. Watch the latest episode of Moms Like Us above to see what the Big Bang Theory alum, 44, had to say.
“I wish that I knew that you’ll never feel like you’ve figured it out. When I was a kid, I was like, ‘Oh, when I become a grown up, I’ll have it all together,’” Bialik, who recently partnered with Royal Canin, told Us. “But I raised my children knowing that every day, this is my first day parenting. So we’re going to learn together and I’m going to do my best.”
As for whether her kids understand that Bialik is a celebrity, she said: “They know about it in bits and pieces. My kids didn’t watch television. They’ve never seen Big Bang Theory, only when they’ve visited me at work a couple of times, but they’re not sitcom watchers.”
When their mom would put on makeup to head to work, they would call it her “clown face.”
“My younger son did not like it, he would say, ‘No clown.’ But now they get it. They also really like that I’m a scientist and an advocate. They like that I’m starting a podcast on mental health because they see the ability that I have to make an impact in the science world and in the mental world, besides all the fun, famous stuff.”
Despite having a few hit sitcoms under her belt, Bialik tries to keep things normal for them. “I still go to softball, when I could, I go to the supermarket. But then I get recognized and they remember that I’m not normal at all,” she added, laughing.
Also in this episode, Garibaldi and Manz talk all the latest celebrity baby news — from Ed Sheeran’s new baby girl to Katy Perry’s very real new mom moment.
