A change of plans! Angelina Jolie’s 19-year-old son, Maddox, will virtually attend Yonsei University amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“He had to stay back from Korea,” the actress, 45, told Extra on Monday, August 16, of her eldest son. “He’s going online, and so I think he starts at 6 p.m. at night.”
The Oscar winner has been quarantining with the rest of her kids — Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 15, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 12 — during COVID-19’s spread. She told the outlet: “They’re all together and it’s a nice big bunch, so everybody’s helping each other out. We’re lucky.”
Us Weekly confirmed in March that Maddox had returned home from Korea. “Maddox is home from school and focusing on his Korean and Russian studies until school reopens,” a source told Us at the time. “Angelina has the other children on a routine by waking them up early every day and getting them started on their school tasks shortly afterwards.”
The following month, the Maleficent: Mistress of Evil star opened up about how “impossible” it is to be a “perfect” parent at this time.
“Now, in the midst of this pandemic, I think of all the mothers and fathers with children at home. All hoping they can do everything right, answer all needs, and stay calm and positive,” Jolie wrote in an essay at the time. “One thing that has helped me is to know that’s impossible.”
The Los Angeles native went on to write, “It is a lovely thing to discover that your children don’t want you perfect. They just want you honest. And doing your best. In fact, the more room they have to be great where you are weak, the stronger they may become. They love you. They want to help you. So in the end, it’s the team you build. And in a way, they are raising you up too. You grow together.”
The Golden Globe winner shares her six kids with ex-husband Brad Pitt. The former couple split in 2016 and have been coparenting ever since. “Brad and Angelina have continued to navigate a path forward for their children,” a source exclusively told Us in July. “There has been progress, but this certainly isn’t news because it’s been ongoing.”
The actor’s relationship with Maddox is currently strained, which the Oklahoma native, 56, considers a “tremendous loss,” an insider told Us in October 2019. The teenager “hasn’t been receptive” to Pitt’s reconciliation efforts.
