Built by the Venetians in the 16th century, the famous “Kato Mili” in Chora is one of the island’s most famous icons. It’s a short, picturesque walk through the village to reach, and affords glorious views on the sea and coastline below.

When you visit the Kato Mili historic windmills, you’ll also enjoy seeing these photogenic black and white pigeons that hang out in every window.

Little Venice
Known as Little Venice, these rows of fishing houses that line the waterfront in Chora were constructed in the mid-18th century and remain one of the island’s most iconic images. Originally owned by sea captains of the time, many of the original houses have been converted into bars and restaurants.

Greece is known for its exquisite high-quality gold jewelry and you’ll find an amazing selection of boutiques offering local, handcrafted pieces in unique designs. In the off-season, you can definitely negotiate with the price, even in the most upscale of shops.

Maritime magic
As you may imagine, fishing is the lifeblood of the Greek islands, and Mykonos is no exception. You’ll see colorful fishing boats everywhere – and you’ll definitely enjoy the catch of the day at the local restaurants.
Fruit of the sea
Needless to say, while Mykonos offers a wide variety of cuisine in its restaurants, from beef to vegan, seafood specialties are at the top of the menu. And no wonder, plucked fresh from the pristine waters off the shore, there is nothing more delicious than the isle’s “fruit of the sea.”

Going to the chapel
There seems to be a church or chapel around every corner of the town of Chora, always a lovely site to come across. The colors of the cupola and doors are predominantly blue or red, which contrast beautifully with the stark white walls of the buildings.

Local life
It’s hard to imagine people living today without clothes dryers. But on this island, you still find the old traditions in full force, such as drying clothes on a line in the sea breeze.

Every shop on Chora seems to have its own unique storefront. This boutique’s exterior was definitely a work of art.

Ancient church
This church, located high on a hill above Chora, is known as the Church of Panagia Paraportiani, which literally means “Our Lady of the Side Gate.” The history of this church goes back to 1425 when construction was started, but it wasn’t completed until the 17th century.
