boss Elon Musk once tweeted to his 39.5 million followers that, “Consumer Reports is always fair & accurate in their criticism.” We’ll see if he sticks with that take after the publication’s latest study gave a nod to one of his company’s top rivals.
According to Consumer Reports , Tesla’s Autopilot system placed a “distant second” to GM

scoring 57 out of 100 points, vs. 69 for the Detroit auto maker.
To determine the rankings, testers put 17 of the newest driving assistance systems to the test on a private track and on public roads, rating them by dozens of measures, including steering the car, controlling the speed, ease of use and keeping the driver safe and engaged.
“Even with new systems from many different automakers, [GM’s] Super Cruise still comes out on top due to the infrared camera ensuring the driver’s eyes are looking toward the roadway,” Consumer Reports’ Kelly Funkhouser said in reference to the results.

This isn’t the first test in which GM’s Super Cruise has managed to beat out Tesla. It also happened the last time these systems were tested back in 2018.
“Even after two years, Cadillac’s Super Cruise remained our top-rated system because, when turned on, it uses direct driver monitoring to warn drivers that appear to have stopped paying attention to the road,” Consumer Reports explained.
GM has said 22 vehicles will come equipped with Super Cruise technology by 2023, including a next-generation system with greater capabilities.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and, at last check, Musk had yet to address the results on Twitter
