U.S. stock futures flat as 2021 trading kicks off

U.S. stock-market futures were flat late Sunday, in the first trading session of the new year.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures
YM00,
,
S&P 500 futures
ES00,

and Nasdaq-100 futures
NQ00,

were little changed, two days ahead of the Georgia runoff election that will decide control of the Senate and, likely, the fate of the incoming Biden administration’s economic policy.

U.S. stocks finished higher Thursday, the last trading day of 2020, with the Dow and S&P 500 setting new records as investors rung out a wild year that saw equities collapse into a bear market before rebounding to all-time highs.

The Dow
DJIA,

closed the year up 8.3%, the S&P 500
SPX,

ended up 16.3%, and the Nasdaq
COMP,

finished the year up a whopping 43.6%.
