Except Nifty Media and Nifty Pharma all other sectoral indices were trading with gains.

Share Market News Today | Sensex, Nifty, Share Prices LIVE: Sensex slipped into the red on Monday, giving up over 500 points while Nifty fell below the 11,700 mark. S&P BSE Sensex was down over 100 points higher while the 50-stock Nifty traded below the 11,700 mark. Financials were the top gainers on Sensex on the opening bell but after the initial hours of trade big private banks dragged markets down. Volatility jumped 12% on Monday to sit above 20 levels. Except Nifty IT all other sectoral indices were trading with losses. IndusInd Bank was the top gainer on the opening bell, but later tanked to trade as the top drag on Sensex.

Today eyes will be glued on India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data for the first quarter of the current fiscal year. The GDP data will reflect how India’s economy has fared amidst the coronavirus pandemic and the results lockdown. Economists at Morgan Stanley have pegged India’s GDP to contract by 19% during the quarter. Many experts from across the globe believe that India’s GDP in the current financial year will slip by over 5%, as a result of the economic slowdown that the pandemic has caused. In the previous quarter, India’s GDP grew by 3.1%.
